Boating and Sailing in Cyprus

Surrounded by water, Cyprus as you might very well imagine has an affiliation with boating and sailing that stretches back many decades. From the marina at Larnaca a wealth of nautical adventures can be enjoyed. Organized boat trips around the bay are popular with tourists, and are ideal if you're looking for a short sea excursion for all the family. For the more adventurous there are opportunities to charter a yacht and even to hire a crew to sail you around the island for a week or longer.

If you want to learn how to sail, sailing lessons can be organized at Larnaca. There are RYA approved sailing schools at the marina offering combinations of shore-based courses and sea-based courses. The world famous Zenobia shipwreck is within easy reach of the marina too. Boating excursions combining a dive onto the shipwreck in Larnaca Bay can be arranged at the marina.

St Raphael Marina at Limassol is the only other marina in Cyprus. From here a similar array of boating and sailing activities are available for tourists to enjoy. If you are sailing your own vessel into either marina it is worth noting that to acquire a berth you will need to make a booking in advance of your arrival.

Other coastal resorts around Cyprus offer a more limited range of boating opportunities for tourists. One not to be missed is the Akamas boat trip from Paphos Harbour. This is a day out at sea near the island of Yeronisos. The trip takes in the breathtaking coastline along where it is said that Aphrodite rose out from the ocean. The excursion navigates its way past exotic sea caves and drops anchor in a secluded bay so guests can enjoy a relaxing swim in the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean. Could life be any more perfect?
